my picks from FRUiTS... from last month. sigh.

got my sparkling water and my “lovesong” by the cure. time to write. moving on.

ok so this post is late. ms. lamey mc lamerson over here has been really busy doing nothing in particular (watching anime, getting prepared to start school, watching 1970’s Japanese exploitation films… the usual), so she was far too busy to write a piece on her favorite looks in the august issue of FRUiTS. gomen nasai.
storytime now: i waltz into kinokuniya bookstore totally jazzed that i am gonna buy the latest FRUiTS, and a little nervous as to whether they will still have any in stock since i wasn’t able to make it over that way for a while. much to my delight, there it was in all of its street fashion-y glory, one single issue waiting for me to take it home. but something was… off. not wrong, but different. the mag was considerably smaller, the cover was glossy, the binding no longer stapled. yes, FRUiTS has redesigned.
caught me off guard for a sec there, but naturally the inside is still filled with the cutting edge styles its famous for. a lot of what my sister and i like to call tumblr fashion is super popular on the streets of harajuku now; cutoffs, printed tights still, spiked creepers, spike and rosette headbands. not that i don’t dig it, but the things that stood out to me were a little different.

the first outfit to catch my eye was a totally cute decora style. it seems the decora are a dying tribe, so i was stoked to see such a cute and considerable wearable decora ensemble! her overall shorts are adorable, and extra yay for her panda shoes. <3

ok. pink buzzed hair and feathers. this girl is already epic from just her head to her shoulders. the leggings? oi to the awesome.

denim on ripped denim. simplicity that sounds like it should suck, but obviously doesn’t. i adore this look for its total lack of trendy.

ok, the whole effect of this look is weirdly entrancing to me. the basic appeal of the top moving down to the cute high waisted shorts with the really cool texture to the-OH MY GOD THOSE TIGHTS RULE!! i loooooove these tights for some reason. they give her whole look impact, and her shoes are pretty wicked too.

andy warhol would eat this girl alive with a grin if he was alive today. then he’d paint her portrait. she’s so factory it isn’t funny. adore her pink shoes with an otherwise monochromatic look.

well, that’s it for the looks that really got me this time around…the new issue should be out soon so hopefully i’ll actually write about it when i get it, not a month later. oh, btw! FRUiTS has added little trading cards to the magazine now! random! and full of yay!!

until next time,

  1. The feathers! The factory girl! Love. More please! I know japanese fashion is your thing but I have a request: can you do a blog post on hiphop fashion? I'm in the bay now and need to stop dressing like a santa cruz hippy! :P
